How to apply bait salt
Step 1 – Prep Your Bait
Start with fresh or thawed baits (ballyhoo, mullet, mackerel, etc.).
Remove excess blood, slime, or scales for best results.
Step 2 – Coat with Bait Salt
Lay baits in a tray, bucket, or bag.
Generously sprinkle bait salt over and inside the gills/cavity.
Make sure each bait is fully coated.
Step 3 – Layer & Repeat
If curing multiple baits, add a layer of salt, then baits, then salt again.
Continue layering until all baits are packed.
Step 4 – Let Cure
Refrigerate or keep on ice for 6–12 hours (overnight is best).
The salt will toughen, brighten, and preserve the baits.
Step 5 – shake off & Rig
Before rigging, lightly shake off excess salt.
Your baits are now ready to troll — durable, shiny, and fish-ready.
